The Class A Germanium Amplifier by Dazatronyx features a single AC128 'tin can' PNP germanium transistor, known for its natural and organic-sounding properties. The pedal behaves similarly to a vacuum tube amplifier, allowing users to boost clean or lead tones, push the amp, and add body and sustain. It effectively adds an extra high-gain channel switch to the amp. The frequency switch provides tone-shaping functionality with three settings:
1. Full Cream: Adds vintage body and fattens the tone.
2. Bright: Creates sparkling clean tones and bright leads, with the ability
to tighten the high end for lead boosts.
3. Mid: Effective at isolating the stage tone and cutting through a live mix
without getting too wooly. It can also be used to slightly fatten the tone of
single-coil pickups to resemble humbuckers.
Each unit is individually biased with an internal multiple-turn trimpot, and power supply filtering has been added with a protection diode. The circuit runs with a negative ground to allow sharing a common supply with other pedals. The pedal is not intended for hi-fi applications, as the transistor is pushed to its limits and beyond, causing the sound to break up with a hard strum. The transistor remains running in standby mode while the unit is in bypass, and to turn the unit off, users need to disconnect the input jack.
