The Black Ash by EarthQuaker Devices is a limited-edition fuzz/overdrive pedal that draws inspiration from the vintage "three-knob Bender." It incorporates rare and irreplaceable components, including paper-in-oil capacitors and NOS half-watt carbon composition resistors from EQD President Jamie Stillman’s personal stash. The pedal features the following technical specifications:
- Measures: 4.75" x 2.50" x 2.25" with knobs
- Current Draw: 20 mA
- Input Impedance: 100 kΩ
- Output Impedance: 22 kΩ
- Switching: True bypass with electronic relay-based switching
- Power: Standard 9 volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm negative center barrel.
It is recommended to use pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power
supplies or multiple isolated-output supplies to minimize noise.
The controls on the Black Ash pedal include Fuzz (adjusts the amount of gain), Top (adjusts high frequencies between 2kHz - 10kHz and controls the guitar's presence in the mix), and Level (sets the output volume).
