The Blacksmith Distortion pedal by BBE is an all-analog distortion pedal designed to provide a heavier, chunkier distortion by force-feeding a tube amp. The concept was developed by Paul Gagon in the 1980s, inspired by the desire of artists for more grind out of their Marshall amps. The pedal features a distortion generation circuit feeding a 3-band passive EQ derived from a '69 Plexi, allowing users to dial in the characteristics of a particular tube amp. The EQ is also useful for shaping the tone, such as creating a killer shred tone by scooping the mids and cranking the lows and highs.
The pedal features 1% metal-film resistors, high-voltage poly caps, big signal traces on a mil-spec circuit board, and a 1 MEG Ohm input resistance to welcome the guitar's signal. It is built to work with a variety of quality tube amps, from Mesa to Fender, and offers true hardwire bypass to eliminate any pickup loading when disengaged. The Blacksmith Distortion pedal is designed to deliver the classic Marshall tonal balance with greater consistency and durability.
