The Guyatone TZ-2, also known as "The Fuzz," is a retro-style fuzz effect pedal based on the vintage Univox Superfuzz. It is designed to create distortion using methods other than waveform clipping, producing a sawtooth waveform that yields a ruder and cruder tone with a substantial low-end, making it suitable for use with both bass and guitar.
The pedal's circuit contains a diode ring, which is used to add upper octave tones to an input signal. The upper octave tracks particularly well and is smoother and more subtle than most boutique octavia clones currently on the market. It even tracks well on bass, creating a unique, synth-like tone on upper register notes. Additionally, playing double stops or chords through the TZ-2 will produce atonal, clangorous tones similar to a ring modulator, making it suitable for special effects and unconventional applications.
