The BugCrusher by Fredric Effects is an Analogue Sample Rate Reducer, utilizing a Sample & Hold circuit run at audio rates to produce aliasing effects on the signal. When the Rate is set high, it imparts a clear fizzle and crunch, while at low rates, high frequencies seem to wrap-around in an effect somewhat akin to a clean ring-mod. Despite its name, the BugCrusher is not an actual BitCrusher, as most BitCrusher effects will have Sample Rate and Bit Depth quantization and are typically digital in nature. The creator, Tom Bugs, mentions that the BugCrusher was well-liked for processing synths and drum machines, and has also found favor with bassists as the low frequencies can pass through cleanly while the highs are crunched. The pedal is available for purchase at £125.
